Dr. Lee Tian Tee
Still get used to call him Dr.Lee... afterall I have been calling him Mr.Lee for 2 years.
I didn't like Mr.Lee initially. I first came under his baton when I was sec3. Mr Tan Swee Sing had to retire. Come to think of it, don't really know why we couldn't bear to part with him... maybe because we can't accept the idea that we have to have another conductor after getting used to Mr. Tan. Come to think of it, Mr.Tan has never really recognise the percussion section... I felt so invisible. Only when I played the timpani solo one year then he started noticing the potential in me...
Anyway, this blog post is not on Mr.Tan but Mr.Lee. Mr.Lee took us for only about one month. He was very strict about punctuality and stuff... so we didn't really like him... he scared us... One of the band prac happened to fall on my birthday and my friends were so nice to buy me a cake... and we got an extra piece so we didn't know what to do with it, so I offered it to him... then he told me it was also my principal's birthday =(
My first impression of Mr.Lee wasn't that good so when I went to TPJC, I told myself I won't join the band if he was the conductor...
Then it turned out that he WAS the conductor but by then I have already signed up...
He would always call me by "St-Hilda's" hmph... of coz, he did know my name eventually because I was the SL in year 2.
Only when I came to NUSWS, did I fully appreciate Mr.Lee. He was a mentor, a teacher, a friend... He would often teach us very chim musical stuff which 90% goes out...hahaha... whenever you need help, you can always approach him... he would treat us to meals and movies... like after SYF, he treated us to Pizza Hut and stuff...he would always share his life experiences with us.
His punishment method is rather unusual... he used to fine us then he realised that it didnt really work coz we were all poor people, so we ended up having to buy coke for him... but the coke would always be finished up by us b4 he reached the band room hahaha...
He's impartial although it does seem he favours guys (coz there's a rumour he's gay)... everybody gets a fair chance... and to him, as long as you are willing to work hard, he is willing to help you either appeal into the school or other ways... like one of the girls was nearly expelled becoz her results couldn't make it... he went to talk to the principal... but then again, he was very good friends with the principal...
He's getting old already...hmpph but still so thin... there was once he tried to sit on me... coz we at VCH backstage and I sat on a chair which he stood up from... then he sat on me... then he tried to snatch the chair from me... in the end he went to get another chair... he's easy-going and yet strict... fun-loving... always asking us to "get a life"... he always told us to relax b4 concert or competition... just try our best...
He's the best...!
