Go back to your country

I was reading on Yahoo! News today on the article of 'Chinese scholar Sun Xu faces NUS disciplinary board' for making a comment on 'there are more dogs than humans in Singapore'.

At the first instant, anger is invoked within me and my first reaction was 'See! (To the government) There's your foreign talent!' and I wanted to tell that china guy to go home. Why come here in the first place when you despise us? Since we are this terrible, why do you want to come her? Aren't you a hypocrite? It reminded me on my husband's reaction whenever he heard such news.

But after I have calmed down and seriously gave the whole situation a thought, frankly speaking, it was not as bad as I first perceived it to be.
The words might sound offensive, but seriously, they are not so offensive. I'm sure you'll get worst in Taiwan or the US. It is only in Singapore where we are so protected and every little offensive word will make trouble brew.

Who doesn't have complaints? Who doesn't have grumbles? But being unhappy, does that only applies to Singaporeans? Can't our foreign friends have anger just because they are foreigners?
But I guess, the problem is, they must learn to control their usage of words especially in the public for everybody's eyes are upon them.

If a Singaporean was to make such a comment, it would probably be brushed off as a joke.

But if this guy seriously meant harm, Singaporeans should show graciously and a big heart at ignoring him. Why get all bothered by his miserly words? If we get irritated, doesn't that fulfill his purpose? We should show that we are affected yet not too overly affected. Just like how the 'atas' people would behave - 'we should not be bothering with these uneducated people'. Bring out our 'proud' side.

And whether it justifies to revolt his scholarship -
I'm not sure of what my stand on this is. Part of me wants him to go home - because I simply cannot stand him. But objectively, it is simply a small matter. If he is truly repentant, then we should let him continue.

I hope the board makes a wise decision.

Sometimes, I have my own doubts about these boards...
