Every job has its problems.
I just happened to take a late lunch at the pantry area and while at it, Linda - our office cleaner sat down with me to tell me the ugly sights of people in this office. When I first joined this company and saw the pantry, my mind went "WOW". Compared to the miser Japanese office which to even cut off our green tea supply, this new office had a fridge full of soft drinks and baskets of fruits on the pantry table. Not to mention that there was also a dedicated auntie to clean up your dirty cups and dishes. It was a luxury. But despite her services, I always thought it was still necessary to do certain things ourselves like for example, take your dirty dishes to the pantry and put it into the designated area; keep the knives back to where they should be for safety reasons; keep your own work area clean; throw your perishables in the main bin instead of the work station bin especially on Fridays. However, according to Linda, there were many people in the office not so considerate. They literally took her service like she was a maid.
There are some people who could use up to 4-5 cups a day. Well, I would thought that the more sensible way is to get a large water bottle or container so that you don't have to keep refilling a small little cup or make so many trips to the water dispenser.
If you bring your food to work, you should wash your own containers. If you are so lazy enough not to wash them, then at least at it soaked in water so that Linda can wash it easily especially if your utensils are oily or stained.
Don't leave dirty cups lying around on your table by the end of the day. At least, bring it to the pantry washing area. These things attract flies.
Don't throw your perishables into the work bin, especially other people's bins. I had the misfortune to sit at the area closest to the gathering table. And on the monthly birthday celebrations, people ended up throwing their chicken bones or food wrappers in my bin after office hours. And those rubbish sat in the bin till Monday.
If you sit in the pantry area, have the courtesy to wipe the tables if you spill and push back your chairs instead of leaving them in a mess.
These are just some of the stuff people do.
Actually, I can see it from how people use the toilets here. There are people who don't flush after they are out. I thought that was totally inconsiderate. This may be a public toilet but it's our office. We should consider our next colleague who would be stepping in.
And I see blood stains and what-not. We have a bidet spray. Have the courtesy to clean it up. Do they leave their home toilets in such a state? Perhaps because they have a maid.
Sometimes people don't see how much a problem they can bring to people. They think since it's somebody else' job so leave it to be.
No wonder nobody wants to be a cleaner these days...
